This house group
meets fortnightly. Our meetings are conducted in French (as far as possible)
and we exchange our news,
read from a book and play games..
The group meets fortnightly. The sessions follow a regular pattern. About half an hour of chat in French and another half hour of grammar following a prescribed course . The rest of the time taken by reading extracts from novels or short stories, watching films or whatever seems appropriate for the day. A conversation group for non-beginners, a chance to practice half learned skills. We meet on alternate Fridays, 1.30 to3.30 from September 17th, ie Friday of week1 and week 3 of the 4 week cycle. This mixed-ability house group meets monthly and its focus is on improving its spoken, reading and listening skills, working mainly from the magazine, Rendez-vous – see www.concordefrench.com Each session normally involves members recounting and discussing their news, reading aloud from a prepared text with analysis of vocabulary and grammatical points, and the occasional viewing of a French film. Members are encouraged to converse in French as much as possible Our house group meets every fortnight. We read a variety of old and modern plays. The group is limited to 7 members which we find is the maximum number for comfortable accommodationFrench Play Reading 2 is a house group meeting fortnightly. We read a range of plays: classical and modern: tragedy, comedy and farce. Most of us read ahead beforehand, with dictionaries, and after reading round the group we discuss both the content and the language of the plays. This is a basic or introductory level “Italian For Beginners” group now into its second year. Accordingly, it assumes, generally, an elementary knowledge of the Italian language. It is designed to develop the language to the point at which it can be spoken, read and written in simple form and introduces appropriate grammar and vocabulary, as necessary, including everyday situations e.g. the home, family, restaurant, hotels and shopping etc.. A starter level language text book is used, supplemented by videos, personal notes and worksheets. Content is designed to be useful and allied to all aspects of Italian life and country experience
We continue to work on Ecce Romani Book 5. There are vacancies in the group, but some previous knowledge of Latin is necessary. Meetings are held at 2pm on alternate Mondays at 23, Cleeve Drive.
The stories and exercises in Ecce Romani provide the linguistic basis of our work and, as we follow the life of a Roman Family, afford glimpses into different levels of Roman society in the last quarter of the first century AD. As far as time allows, we shall be considering the contribution of Latin in the development of the English language and literature. This group is not running this year but may restart in September 2010 Beginners' Spanish will meet fortnightly at group leader Katharine Melville's home in Birnam. A bus from Perth stops nearby. This session we shall base the course around Palgrave's Breakthrough Spanish 1 for which everyone should purchase the book ISBN 1-4039-1559-8. Basic grammar and vocabulary is also built up for which Practice Makes Perfect - Spanish Verb Tenses is useful (ISBN -10: 0-8442-7334-1). Expect little games and lots of giggles! Improvers' Spanish will meet fortnightly at group leader Katharine Melville's home in Birnam. A bus from Perth stops nearby. This session we shall base the course on Palgrave's Breakthrough Spanish 2 for which everyone should purchase the book ISBN 1-4039-1679-9. We shall expect to try more written and spoken and listening work, while revising and introducing new grammar as appropriate. There is room in the group for anyone who already has a basic grasp of Spanish. Games and giggles will continue! This group is set up to learn Intermediate Spanish using the BBC Sueňos course (book and cassettes). It is a small house group (maximum 6 members) and will meet every two weeks on a Monday.
