What is U3A?
It is a unique and exciting self-help educational movement for people
no longer in full-time work (the Third Age). It offers the opportunity
to pursue learning for sheer enjoyment and for its own sake. U3A stands
for University of the Third Age and is part of an international network.
Who can join?
Anyone who is no longer in full time employment or is retired can
join. All you need is interest and enthusiasm and the willingness to
join in group activities. We have members not students. Groups are
formed whenever three or more people share an interest, and a
coordinator can be found.
What does Perth U3A offer?
The purpose of the U3A movement is to enrich the lives of its
members. Perth U3As seeks to do this through supporting over 50
different activities (see a list of our groups by moving your mouse cursor
over the Study Groups menu option on the home page.)
When you
join, you will receive a copy of our free newsletter, published every
two months (you can read the current issue
here).
Four times a year you will also receive by post a free copy of U3A News,
the national magazine.
How do groups function?
Groups run themselves, led by a coordinator who is a member of the
group. Meetings are held in our homes or other premises as needed. All
U3A study and activity groups are led by volunteers. If you have a skill
or interest which you would like to share with others, U3A can provide
the opportunity.
What is the cost?
Membership of U3A Perth costs just £19.00 a year, but the fee is
reduced to £12 for those new members joining after 1st January. This
gives members access to all study and activity groups.
