Badminton

This group is a new venture for the 2010-11 season. It is intended for people who either still play or have done so in the past - at any level !

Our sessions will take place in the Sports Hall at Letham St Marks. Since we will only have the use of one court, it will be necessary to restrict the group numbers and, at least until we see how things go - that will mean limiting membership to 12 people.

Ceilidh Dancing

The group meets in Scone in the New Church Hall. The group is not restricted in the number of members. Our programme includes a mixture of couple dances and easier Scottish Country Dances. Beginners are welcome. Soft shoes recommended. Last session we met fortnightly. We are currently in need of an instructor either to share leading the group or to take it on completely

Golf

Our group was set up in March 2009 with the idea of organising monthly outings to 9-hole courses, around Perth and Kinross, between April and September. Attendance has varied from 5 -12 from a total membership of 17. The golf is not too serious, with a 9-hole stapleford in the morning followed by lunch with an optional texas scramble in the afternoon.

Hillwalking Group

This group is intended to cater for those who enjoy the challenge of the outdoors with the views and forays into hinterlands less frequented. The kinds of routes chosen will depend very much on the wishes and interests of group members and planning will be flexible to encompass the vagaries of the Scottish weather.

During the summer months, it is expected that most outings will be in the 8 or so mile range for the longer route walks or less if including a climb . During winter months, outings will be closer to home and will not include Munros. Whatever the season, waterproof jacket and trousers, and footwear for all kinds of ground conditions will be essential.

Trail Running and Jogging

Easy exercise – running on soft forest, park and hill trails as suggested by group members.

Walking Group

This group is intended to cater for those who do not have the inclination or the stamina to go hill walking or to cover longer distances. The kinds of routes chosen depend very much on the wishes and interests of group members but we try to avoid steep climbs. Most of the walks are in the 4 to 6 mile range and last about 2 ½ to 3 hours. Whatever the length of the walk, footwear suitable for all kinds of ground conditions is essential and carrying waterproof clothing is normally advisable.

Walking and Wildlife

This group continues to enjoy short walks of around 3 miles on level terrain. The social content is very important with conversation from start to finish especially if we can incorporate a cup of tea at a convenient café. Last year we walked in Abernethy, Dunkeld, Perth and Scone and the three 'winter break' meetings again took the form of magazine programmes at the Threshold where we caught up on our wildlife with studies of wild flowers, videos of common garden birds and Scotland’s raptors as well as photos collected by members over the year.
